Chinese Zodiac: Which Animal Are You?
Enter your birth date and Nebu tells you your Chinese zodiac animal, your element and who you tend to get along with. Twelve animals, five elements, one very old calendar.
All twelve animals
Your element
Wood
Wood stands for growth, curiosity and generosity. Wood years and people reach for the light, make plans and like to help others grow. The shadow side is spreading yourself too thin, so choose what deserves your energy.
Fire
Fire stands for passion, warmth and visibility. Fire people bring enthusiasm and make a room feel alive. The task is to keep the flame steady instead of flaring up, and to leave some warmth for quiet moments.
Earth
Earth stands for stability, care and patience. Earth people create a home for others and keep things grounded. The shadow side is worrying too much, so allow yourself to trust the process once in a while.
Metal
Metal stands for clarity, discipline and determination. Metal people know what they want and cut through noise. The task is to soften the edges now and then, because strong things can also bend.
Water
Water stands for intuition, flexibility and depth. Water people sense what is going on beneath the surface and adapt gracefully. The shadow side is drifting, so give your feelings a direction and a riverbed.
How the Chinese zodiac works
The Chinese zodiac is a cycle of twelve animals: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig. Each animal rules one year, then the cycle starts again. After twelve years you meet your animal once more.
Western astrology looks at the month you were born in. The Chinese zodiac looks at the year. That is why two friends with the same birthday year can share an animal, even if their Sun signs have nothing in common.
Tradition says the animal shows how you come across and how you handle life. Take it as a mirror with a sense of humour, not as a verdict. Most people find a few traits that fit and a few that make them laugh.
Why your birth date may give a different animal
The Chinese year does not begin on 1 January. It begins with Chinese New Year, which falls on the new moon between 21 January and 20 February. If you were born in January or early February, your animal may belong to the year before.
Here is an example. Someone born on 20 January 2023 is still a Tiger. The Year of the Rabbit only began on 22 January, so the Tiger year had not ended yet.
Nebu checks the exact date of Chinese New Year for your birth year. If you were born before it, the calculator says so and shows you the right animal. No more guessing with a printed table.
The five elements and yin and yang
On top of the animal there is an element. It follows the last digit of the Chinese year: 0 and 1 are Metal, 2 and 3 are Water, 4 and 5 are Wood, 6 and 7 are Fire, 8 and 9 are Earth. A Wood Tiger and a Fire Tiger share an animal but colour it differently.
Every year is also yin or yang. Even years are yang, which is outward, active and bold. Odd years are yin, which is inward, receptive and thoughtful. Together, animal, element and polarity give a cycle of sixty combinations before the exact same year returns.
Do not worry about memorising any of it. The calculator gives you all three in one line, and each animal page explains how the element changes the flavour.
Compatibility between the animals
Folk tradition sorts the animals into groups. Trines are animals four years apart who tend to click: Rat, Dragon and Monkey, then Ox, Snake and Rooster, then Tiger, Horse and Dog, then Rabbit, Goat and Pig. Six pairs count as secret friends, for example Rat and Ox or Tiger and Pig.
Six pairs sit opposite each other on the wheel and are said to clash: Rat and Horse, Ox and Goat, Tiger and Monkey, Rabbit and Rooster, Dragon and Dog, Snake and Pig. A clash means friction, not doom. It often describes two people who challenge each other to grow.
Add a partner’s birth date in the calculator and Nebu tells you which relation you two have. Treat it as a conversation starter. Real relationships are built from habits and kindness, not from animals.
The Year of the Fire Goat 2027
The Year of the Fire Goat runs from 6 February 2027 to 25 January 2028. It follows the Fire Horse, which started on 17 February 2026. The Goat is known for gentleness, creativity and a taste for comfort, and Fire adds warmth and a bit of spark.
Every animal page has a short outlook for the Fire Goat year. It is entertainment and reflection, never a prediction machine. Use it as a prompt: what do you want more of in the coming year, and what can you gently put down?

Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog and Pig, always in this order. The cycle repeats every twelve years.
What are the five elements in the Chinese zodiac?
Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal and Water. The element follows the last digit of the Chinese year: 0 and 1 Metal, 2 and 3 Water, 4 and 5 Wood, 6 and 7 Fire, 8 and 9 Earth.
Which Chinese zodiac signs are compatible?
